Result of Kind + Jugend 2017: Record figures and a fantastic atmosphere

Even bigger, more international and more impressive: Kind + Jugend continues on its record-setting course It has once again impressively underlined its position as the leading trading platform international trade fair for the baby and toddlers’ outfitting sector – exhibitors and visitors were also more than satisfied.

Kind + Jugend experienced growth in all sections: 5 percent more exhibitors than in 2016 (in total 1,232), 10 percent more exhibition space (110,000 m²) and 2 percent more trade visitors than in the previous year (in total around 22,500 from 113 countries) set new records. The strong international attraction of the leading trade fair for the children’s and baby outfitting sector was particularly impressive. 86 percent of the exhibitors and 75 percent of the trade visitors travelled to Cologne from abroad this year. “As such Kind + Jugend once again confirmed its outstanding international position,” emphasised Katharina C. Hamma, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH. “It is the central hub and at the same time the trendsetter for the national and international business.”

More exhibition space – more content

The exhibition space was expanded by an entire exhibition hall this year (Hall 4.1). This not only enabled the presentation of a larger offer, it also allowed a more targeted bundling of the product sections. The visitors benefited from a clearer overview and more in-depth insights into the theme worlds.

Kind + Jugend has been more than purely a product show since its inception. Its supporting programme – which was also expanded this year – offers information and entertainment in a class of its own: Events like the award ceremonies of the Innovation Award and the KIDS DESIGN AWARD, the Design Park and exciting discussions and lectures on new trends and developments also attracted numerous spectators.

This went down very well with the visitors. In an independent survey, 86 percent of the trade fair guests stated that they were satisfied or indeed very satisfied with their visit. 93 percent would indeed recommend a business acquaintance to visit Kind + Jugend.

The exhibitors also profited from the good atmosphere at the trade fair. Across the board, they praised the high interest of the thoroughly qualified trade visitors and were delighted with a significant increase in the number of customer contacts. “The baby and children’s outfitters are benefiting from the good framework conditions”, explained Willy Fischel, the Executive Director of the German Association of the Toy Retail Trade e.V. (BVS). “In Germany, more babies are born and parents don’t count every euro when spending money on their children. The chances for good business deals are better than ever before.”

Mega trend digitalisation

Only few industries are as innovative as the baby and children’s outfitting world – and no other trade fair in the world demonstrates what we will see in all of the children’s rooms of tomorrow as comprehensively: namely many digital products – first and foremost monitoring and measuring devices as well as smart nursery solutions. The digitalisation around the baby’s cot is the mega trend. Sustainability is also an important theme. Beyond this, further high-quality, design-oriented products are in demand, which are preferably multifunctional and grow with the children.

Which trends have you detected? And how did you like this year’s trade fair?
We look forward to hearing your experiences and receiving your feedback.

We thank all exhibitors and visitors for a successful Kind + Jugend 2017. And because after the trade fair is before the trade fair, we already look forward to seeing you all next year:
