1. You are regularly publishing the latest lifestyle trends for kids. And at Kind + Jugend 2016, you will once again give exclusive insights into the upcoming season. Can you tell us a bit of what is to come in 2017?

Ruth Kelly: For 2017, there are several influences driving change in design for babies and kids. One of the key drivers that continue to be important is a ‘connection to nature’. You can see this influence in several of our design themes for spring/summer, with a real focus on protecting and learning from the natural world. (more…)

Steppingstone into the market – the Kids Design Award is about to enter its second round

Design plays an ever increasing role – that also applies to the children’s items and furniture sector. Open floor plans, the fusion of once separated living areas and the digitization of the living room pose new challenges when it comes to creating furniture for the little ones. That’s why Kind + Jugend is picking up these future trends, supporting innovative design concepts and bringing together manufacturers and designers.

In 2015, Kind + Jugend will be hosting the Kids Design Award for the second time. And for the first time, it will be supported by the Verband Deutscher Industriedesigner (VDID), the German Association of Industrial Designers. As of now, design students and up-and-coming designers from around the world are asked to submit their ideas in the areas of children’s items and furniture. (more…)

creative design at Kind + Jugend 2014

One of the highlights of this year’s design focus is the future of kids design competition. International designers and design schools showcase ten prototypes and concepts for children’s furniture and toy products that inspire by their great ideas, creative design and functional material usage (hall 10.1., stand C80).

Some of the presented prototypes will be manufactured especially for the fair and be shown there for the very first time. Up to three designers will be offered support by “project godfathers” from the industry who will back them up and promote the further development of their products through to their marketability. You will be able to see the results next year: Koelnmesse honours the winners with a free of charge presentation at Kind + Jugend 2015.

An important attraction for trade visitors will be once again the Trendforum (hall 10.1., stand A70/B78), a platform where numerous issues will be discussed. Which (design) trends characterize the outfitting sector for babies and children? Which development should you keep an eye on in the mid-term? Leading experts provide, for example, insights into current market developments, children’s lifestyle trends for the upcoming season or new ideas when it comes to store design.

In cooperation with the design platform afilii, we will present children’s furniture, toy products and accessories that stand out thanks to their trend-setting design and their unique materials at the Designpark. Already a big success last year, the exhibition in hall 10.1 will once again be a source of inspiration on the subjects of living and individual lifestyle in the children’s room.

As it is only one week to go before the trade show opens its doors, make sure to secure a ticket in our Ticket Shop to not miss any trends. And now let’s start and get inspired: About which designs and trends are you really enthusiastic this year?
