Kind + Jugend and Koelnmesse: on the job worldwide for the industry

The China Kids Expo 2015 in Shanghai opened its doors a good four weeks following Kind + Jugend. More than 60,000 trade visitors informed themselves about a variety of products from the baby and children’s outfitting segment from 20 to 22 October. The organisers of the trade fair drew up a very positive summary. The organisers of the exhibition were able to set new standards with a plus of 30 percent among international exhibitors and an increase in the number of visitors of 20 percent. The China Kids Expo is organised annually by the Chinese industry and commerce association China Toy & Juvenile Association and Koelnmesse.

Koelnmesse is also very engaged in Brazil. The Brazilian children’s outfitting market is the second largest in the world, and thus offers enormous potential for international brands. The Cologne trade fair specialist organises the children’s fashion trade fair FIT 0/16 twice a year and the new trade fair event PUERI EXPO, which will take place parallel with the summer edition of FIT as of 2016. Exchange online and offline – A guest commentary on Kind + Jugend 2015 from the Matchmaking365-Community

Norman Dahl, Community Manager of the “Matchmaking365-Community”, shares his impressions about his fair visit at Kind + Jugend 2015 and conversations with exhibitors concerning the new online service:

On September 10 the Kind + Jugend 2015 trade fair started. With this, exhibitors and trade visitors from all over the world came together. Many of them already met before the trade fair online in the Matchmaking365-Community and exchanged industry news. This was a good opportunity to visit the trade fair together with our project manager of the Matchmaking365 service, to collect impressions and experiences. Because this will help us to develop our service further.

After attending the award ceremonies and seeing the great nominations and winners, we visited many fair stands. Not an easy task with 1,141 exhibitors. Nevertheless, there was still enough time for nice and informative conversations. At the Kind + Jugend you can feel the passion for this industry. Kind + Jugend 2015 – all around a full success!

The Kind + Jugend has cleared up top marks this year. With more than 21,000 visitors from 110 countries five percent more trade visitors had come to Cologne than last year. And with 1,141 exhibitors from 50 countries the trade fair has set a new record among exhibitors. Thus, it has once again presented itself as the most important trade fair in the baby and toddler outfitting sector.

The significant visitor increase delighted the organizers of the trade fair – and apparently the many attendees spent successful days in Cologne. This could not only be felt itself in the good mood and relaxed atmosphere during the fair. Also the results of the visitor survey speak for themselves: 83 per cent were happy or very happy with the exhibition offering and their achievement of prior set personal goals. Over 93% of the visitors would recommend the Kind + Jugend to a business partner.

‘Not only the numbers but also the visitor survey show that quantity and quality of the exhibition was convincing all along the line. The concept of the trade fair which has a perfect offer for every market participant is worldwide regarding quality second to none’, said the manager of the Koelnmesse Katharina C. Hamma. On an area of 100,000 square meters exhibitors have presented novelties for four days and further product development serving kids furniture, safety seats and strollers, hygiene products, toys and fabric products. Also for Eric Wickbold, importer and distributor at Hightrade (Sao Paulo, Brasil), the days at the trade fair are essential. He sums up: ‘For us as a global operating import-agency the Kind+Jugend is certainly the most important place worldwide to meet all relevant companies and to support companies planning to enter the Brasilian market.’

At the Kids Design Award 2015 which took place for the second time now, Annika Marie Buchberger’s furniture series ‘full grown’ prevailed against 252 handed in drafts from 40 countries. Together with a kids’ furniture producer who had promised her his product-sponsorship after the awarding, the furniture series is going to be finished until it’s ready for the market.

The awarding of the Innovation Award which traditionally took place on the first day of the trade fair honored more happy winners. This year the jury got 174 drafts from 130 companies handed in from 25 countries.

Consumer Award ceremony: international comparison at a glance

“And the winner is …” provided for excitement and joy to the beginning of the trade fair not just one but three times: in addition to the Innovation Award and the Kids Design Award the winners of the Consumer Award were presented with the prize. In a country-specific online-voting parents had chosen the best products.

The stages of the Trend Forum in hall 10.1, stall A 70 where the awards ceremony of the Consumer Award took place became an international winner’s rostrum. Beforehand, well-known consumer magazines from Germany, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Austria and the Netherlands asked their readers to vote for the best products in different categories. Cooperation partners of the Kind + Jugend Consumer Award 2015 were the widely circulated parents-magazines and –portals Eltern.de and urbia.de (Germany), Ouders von Nu (Netherlands), New Mom (Austria), Wybór Rodziców (Poland), Rody.ru (Russia) and Turkiye Cocuk (Turkey). With the Consumer Award products that already have had great success on the market and which are already established are awarded. The new Matchmaking365-Community is now live for about three weeks – are you happy with the response from exhibitors and trade visitors?

Yes, we are very happy. During the first three weeks already more than 600 members registered, exhibitors and trade visitors. More than 300 inquiries have been published and 70 news messages. That’s a great result! (more…)

Support at every stage!

It is well conceivable that it hasn’t been so easy for the jury of international industry experts to finally choose the nominees for the Kind + Jugend Innovation Award 2015. All together 130 companies from 25 countries handed in 174 innovative products. Now the nominees in eight categories are chosen and announced. On September 10th (10.00 am in hall 10.1) to the beginning of the fair trade the winners are going to be selected.

However, the Innovation Award is only one of six support projects through what the Kind + Jugend wants to support young companies and designers and also established brand manufacturers at every stage of their market participation: from prototype up to a successful brand product.

Kind + Jugend 2015: record trade fair ahead!

Even more diverse, more international, more high-quality: that is going to be Kind + Jugend 2015. With 1,141 exhibitors, the trade fair achieves a new record, and with a foreign share of 84 percent it consolidates its position as the world’s most important meeting point of the industry. The broad offer presented in Cologne ranges from children’s furniture, safety seats, strollers and sanitary products to toys and textile furnishings, and includes all the relevant and pioneering brands. Especially looking at the context of rising birth rates and encouraging prospects for the sector, you definitely should not miss Kind + Jugend 2015!

Baby Boom: good prospects for the sector

According to the German Federal Statistical Office (“Statistisches Bundesamt”), the birth rate has risen by 4.8 percent in 2014. At the same time more and more parents are willing to invest more money in their offspring: in 2014 parents spent around 1,058 euros per child in the first three years of their life, these are 3 percent more than the same period in 2013. Particularly manufacturers of strollers and child seats can benefit from that – since 2011 the sector is pleased with uninterrupted growth. (more…)
